Following our closure during the month of September, the Black American West Museum & Heritage Center is open for business. Thank you for your patience during renovations.
We will continue working to preserve the legacy of African Americans in the West because "We Tell It Like It Is... So That We Will Never Forget How It Was".
In May 2016 board members, advisors and volunteers contributed to an art sale, where the visitors learned about the museum and indulged themselves with works of art portraying African American culture and Western iconography.
Doors Open Denver (DOD) is an annual event that brings people from around the nation to Colorado. "Each spring, the Denver Architectural Foundation (DAF) inspires the community to connect, through self-guided (free) or expert-guided (fee-based) tours of Denver’s unique spaces, including high-profile, historic and/or artistic feats of architecture and design. Doors Open Denver tells the story of where Denver is, where it has been and where it’s going." The Black American West Museum & Heritage Center is proud to have its historic residence, the home of the late Dr. Justina Ford, among those stories.
